What does it do?
You scan or type a barcode, or a product name. It checks it against recent UK Food Standards Agency food alerts and US FDA food recalls and tells you if there is a match. US meat and poultry (USDA FSIS) and non-food products are not covered. It is a convenience check, not safety advice.
Is my data uploaded?
Your camera picture stays on your phone and is never sent anywhere. If you scan or type a barcode number, that number is sent to Open Food Facts (to get the product name) and to the US FDA recall search. The recall lists are downloaded from the UK FSA and the US FDA. Your shop list is saved in this browser only. THATCHED keeps an anonymous count of page views and free uses, and anonymous error reports. Payment is handled by Stripe when you choose to pay.
What does it cost?
Scanning, searching and the recall list are free. My shop list is free for 3 items; unlimited items are , paid once.
Can I get a refund?
Digital goods: access starts straight away, so the 14-day cancellation right ends once you start using it. If something is broken, email business@thatched.ai.
Which browsers and devices work?
A recent browser on a phone or computer. Scanning needs a camera and your permission; without one you can type the barcode number or a name. Scanning uses the browser's built-in barcode detector where there is one, and a bundled scanner otherwise.
